Project Spotlight: Water Storage Tank Rehabilitation

Date: May 12, 2023

SCE provided inspection and engineering services on two (2) City of Perth Amboy Water Storage Tanks: a one-million-gallon distribution system water storage standpipe and a 320,000-gallon elevated spheroid backwash water storage tank originally constructed in 1976 and 1998, respectively. Our professionals performed both an exterior drone (UAS) and interior remote operated vehicle (ROV) inspection of each tank. Based on inspection findings, SCE prepared reports with several coating renewal options and provided rehabilitation design services that included sanitary, safety, and access improvements in accordance with AWWA, OSHA, NFPA, SSPC, and ASTM standards and recommendations for both tanks. The innovative solutions provided on this project allowed the rehabilitation to proceed through completion, while keeping both tanks in service and the needs of the customers it serves a top priority.
