Project Spotlight: Culvert Gas Main Relocation

Date: May 12, 2023

SCE completed design and as-built services for the relocation of an existing gas main to facilitate the replacement of an existing culvert. The original main was positioned between the existing roadway culvert and a pedestrian footbridge, which required the new main to be installed downstream of the new culvert construction footprint prior to the culvert replacement. The gas main relocation included approximately 170 linear feet of replacement; 30 feet included free spanning across the existing channel. To meet the free span requirements of the proposed 16-inch steel pipe, concrete piers and roller chairs were constructed within the channel banks. With tight tolerances and proximity to the limits of the right-of-way, our team was able to design a feasible layout for the Client and community.
