This is a temporary project position to complete a utility pipeline project as part of a larger team (with potential to turn into a permanent full-time position). The position is anticipated to begin in early August 2024 and end in December 2024.  Successful candidates will undergo training near the assigned project location followed by working independently or within a team to collect field data within Dawson and Lumpkin Counties geographic area. This is a natural gas construction project, where the typical construction schedule for the contractors on this project will be 6 days a week, 10 hours a day.  While this position is a temporary full-time position based on a standard 40-hour work week, overtime opportunities may be available for SCE employees during this project assignment dependent upon Client needs and approval. SCE expects our employees on this project to be working up to 6 days a week and 8+ hour workdays. Candidates for this position will be expected to utilize utility vehicles provided on site as well as navigating hilly terrain and spend most of their day outside between the scheduled dates.

Brief Description:

Under direction, reports to the project location as defined by the team lead, and begins capturing, documenting and overseeing the construction activities for the day.  Asset locations will be mapped using Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS) equipment connected to a tablet computer running Esri’s ArcGIS Field Maps mobile application.  Field Technicians will locate all applicable natural gas assets throughout the construction day and within the constraints of the project limits, take photographs of each asset, and complete all required attribute data to document the manufacturer and model, material and personnel information as well as location information. Field Technicians may be required to perform other related duties as required.  Field Technicians should be knowledgeable of field activities and Client/company procedures used in field data collection.  Must have the ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.

Examples of work/duties:

  • Report to Regional Field Supervisor.
  • Work in the field for 8+ hours per day if needed by the Client and be outdoors during all weather conditions.
  • Walk or stand for the majority of the workday.
  • Will be trained in the proper use of GNSS / GIS technology and equipment.
  • Perform work safely and in compliance with all safety procedures and regulations.
  • Interact and effectively communicate with the SCE team and Client.
  • Shows a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be able to learn and demonstrate familiarity with natural gas utilities and general construction activities.
  • Apply knowledge received during training to work assignments.
  • Arrives at work on time every day in a professional manner in both attire and attitude.
  • Overtime and/or weekend work may be required.

Requirements (education, licensing, certifications, etc.):

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in GIS or Engineering preferred.
  • 0-3 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in using a computer, Microsoft Office, and GPS / GIS technology.
  • Ability to walk and stand for the workday.
  • Experience with one or more of the following is preferred, not required:
    • Esri ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Field Maps
    • GNSS/GPS equipment
    • OSHA 10-hr
