Newark Schools Stadium Reopens Following Major Renovation

Date: June 22, 2026

Congratulations to the Newark Board of Education (BOE) on the grand re-opening of Newark Schools Stadium! Originally built in 1925, Newark Schools Stadium has long served as a gathering place for athletics, school spirit, and community pride in Newark’s North Ward. Following a comprehensive, multimillion-dollar renovation, the historic venue officially reopened on May 22, 2026, welcoming students, families, alumni, and community members back to a transformed, state-of-the-art facility.

The modernization of Newark Schools Stadium reflects the BOE’s continued investment in creating high-quality spaces where students can learn, compete, and thrive. Featuring upgraded athletic amenities and enhanced infrastructure, the renovated stadium will support generations of student-athletes while strengthening community connections through recreation and shared experiences.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

SCE provided topographic surveying, engineering design, permitting, bid support, and construction support services for the project as part of the design team alongside CTS Group Architecture. CTS Group Architecture led the design of the stadium structure improvements and provided bidding and construction management services. Our team was proud to contribute to this landmark project and help bring the vision for a revitalized Newark Schools Stadium to life.

The project included the replacement of the existing synthetic turf for two softball fields and one multi-purpose field, as well as the reconstruction of the running track and field event areas, including the long jump, pole vault, discus, shot put, and javelin facilities. Additional improvements included repaving areas surrounding the fields, replacing metal halide sports lighting with energy-efficient LED lighting, installing a new sound system, repairing the historic entry arches and gates, adding new awnings, applying color coatings to the softball dugouts and other athletic areas, and power washing the stadium structure.
