Date: May 9, 2024

Check out SCE’s article published in the Quarter 1, 2024 issue of Pennsylvania Water Environmental Association’s (PWEA) Keystone Water Quality Manager (KWQM) magazine.

This article is the second installment of the KWQM series on Asset Management. It focuses on Step 1 of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Fundamentals of Asset Management;  “Develop an Asset Registry”.  Co-Authored by SCE’s GIS Department Manager, Michael Kolody, GISP,  this composition defines assets and what they consist of, what an Asset Registry is, and why all are important for organizations in relation to water distribution, sanitary sewer, and stormwater utilities. It also highlights the benefits of utilizing GIS in the development of an Asset Registry.

The goal of an Asset Registry is to gain insight into a utility system’s assets and prepare the organization for further success. By following the structure defined in this article, a utility system can develop its own Asset Registry and continue to scale and improve. Click the link below to learn more about the key methodologies utilized in Asset Registry development and how such may be beneficial to one’s own utility system.
