City of Elizabeth’s Coach Singley Park Receives a 2025 NJPO Award

Date: September 26, 2025

Congratulations to the City of Elizabeth on receiving a 2025 New Jersey Planning Officials (NJPO) Achievements in Planning Award for Coach Singley Park (formerly 6th Street Park)! SCE team members and key City personnel attended the Awards Breakfast on Friday, September 26th, to honor all project winners!

SCE is proud to have contributed to the transformation of Coach Singley Park into an award-winning community destination. From the sports-themed splash pad to the inclusive fitness stations, this vibrant space honors Coach Singley’s legacy while inspiring residents of all ages to stay active, connect, and enjoy the outdoors. Congratulations to everyone involved in creating a park that truly brings the community together!

Project Description & Overview:

What started as a $1.3M renovation project has transformed the corner of 6th, Fulton, and Franklin Streets into a sports-themed community hub that’s bursting with energy, inclusivity, and neighborhood pride. Inspired by Miller Playground but shaped by community voices, the design went above and beyond to deliver amenities everyone can enjoy. Driven by community feedback and a clear need for improved recreational amenities, the initiative focused on enhancing safety, accessibility, and inclusivity for all age groups.

From the baseball graphic entrance to the football-themed splash pad, synthetic turf play lawn, and equipment showcasing the City’s school mascot, the park is packed with fun details. Dedicated to Coach Singley, the space features a memorial banner and fitness stations tailored for users of all abilities, with accessible walking circuits and distance markers.

Funded by a NJDEP Green Acres grant and local contributions, the park officially opened in August 2024—and it’s been a home run ever since. Whether it’s toddlers splashing, teens playing pickup games, or neighbors gathering for fitness and fresh air, this park is bringing people together and scoring big for community wellness. Thoughtful use of limited space and inclusive design have made it a beloved community hub, significantly enhancing engagement, wellness, and neighborhood pride.
