City of Elizabeth holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Pulaski Street Tennis & Pickleball Courts

Date: March 13, 2026

Congratulations to the City of Elizabeth (City) on breaking ground at Pulaski Street for the new Tennis and Pickleball Courts! The Groundbreaking Ceremony, held on Monday, March 9, 2026, was a wonderful celebration attended by community members, teachers and students from the local high school, SCE project team members, and City officials. Featured speakers included Director Stan Neron, Councilman Nelson Gonzalez, Mayor Chris Bollwage, Lt. Governor Dale Caldwell, Union County Commissioners Lourdes Leon and Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded, and Art Carrington, for whom the courts are being named. It was a beautiful day marking the transformation of this once vacant open space into a fantastic addition to the City’s growing network of athletic and recreation facilities.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

This project includes the development of five (5) new tennis courts, including one (1) championship court and two (2) courts with pickleball overlays, along with associated site improvements at 625 Pulaski Street. Enhancements include dual tennis and pickleball striping, grading and drainage design, underground stormwater detention, LED sports lighting, fencing, bleachers, walkway connections to the recreation center, and replacement of curb and sidewalk along Pulaski Street.

SCE is providing Consulting Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Land Surveying, Environmental, Permitting, and Construction Support services to the City. Our work began with detailed topographic and boundary surveying, soil sampling and characterization, and a geotechnical investigation to evaluate subsurface conditions, drainage characteristics, and foundation requirements for stormwater infrastructure and sports lighting. These efforts supported the development of concept plans, preliminary engineering design, and stormwater management solutions designed to meet City and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) requirements.
